We Need Your Help!
Once again we will be running this event at the Whitewater Centre, and once again we will need lots of help. Those helping can also enter the officials competition, free of charge, or the ranking competition half-price. (We have to charge you because we have to pass on a chunk of the entry fees to the BCU.)
As it’s school holidays, I will be on site, camping, from Thursday evening, and others are welcome to join me. My intention is to get the gates hung and pulled aside on the Thursday evening August 28th, from
5:30pm. For this to work we need about a dozen people, ideally with several who know how the gates work. If you want to learn, come along on the Thursday evening
28th August.

On Friday we will get the boatstore cleared, put up the marquee as an extension, set up the Control, timing and telephones, and the PA system. If enough people are there on Friday we can get this finished by about 6pm, ready for practice, and a rest. There will be a practice session on the course on Friday evening. We will be charging competitors for this, as it’s an extra cost for us.

On Saturday we run the first competition. We will be taking entries, producing start lists, judging rotas and running the complete run practice during the morning. We need people for all these jobs, and it works better if we know who they will be in advance so that they can be briefed on what they have to do. In the afternoon is the actual competition. We need starter, finisher, control clerks (taking results by phone from the judges, or putting the results onto the computer), runners, and competitors. Just because we are running it, doesn’t mean that people can’t enter as well. We usually collect quite
a lot of the prizes. In the evening we alter the course for Sunday, then have a BARBECUE and
relax.

Sunday is much the same pattern as Saturday, except that everything is two hours earlier, because we have to finish before rafting starts in the evening.

Note for those who have competed before - if you got promoted last year you MUST apply for your bib before entering this year. If you enter without doing that your results will not be counted, either for prizes or for ranking status.

Key Times:
* Thursday evening, putting up the gates
* Saturday morning 9am, taking entries, taking entry and camp fees
* Saturday afternoon, running the competition
* Sunday morning, 8AM taking entries.
* Sunday 10AM running the competition
* Sunday 4pm taking down the course.

If you can help, particularly at any of these key times, please let me know, in advance if possible, so that I can plan who does what and when. Even if you haven’t been to a slalom before, your help will be valuable. Everybody has to start somewhere.

All photos that I took are online at www.steven-b.co.uk

If any smaller prints are wanted I am will reduce the postage as £7.50 is only for the big prints.
