Sessions and Times

We have a range of different sessions available to members as well as many courses and outside trips. Through the summer months the club is a very busy place with many different types of activities going on.

If your New to the club or canoeing then the come and try sessions once a month are where to start.

Sunday social paddle (Summer months):

The main paddling session in the week for the bulk of the members is the Sunday session.
10.30 for 11:00 on the water -13.00 approx, spring through to autumn – At the Club

These sessions are mainly for people with basic paddling skills but want a bit more practice on the flat water or just fancy a gentle paddle on the river Nene.

We provide a Session Leader who is able to look after people who are not of a “Paddle Explore” or 2 star standard.

If you are a Paddle explore  or 2 star standard your able to all go out paddling as a group (min 3) and often the Duty Instructor will come along as well to look after those that are not of that ability.
Just turn up with light weight clothes, a wind-proof cag and trainers.  we have a range of boats and other safety equipment ie buoyancy aid, helmet paddle etc. available for you to use.

There is no cost to this session for members of the club and it is also a great time for potential members to come and see how it all works and talk to our coaches and other members.

Wednesday evenings (summer months):

This session is for Club members only
Wednesday evenings (18:30-20:30), spring through to autumn.

These sessions are only for Paddle Power Explore (2 star)+ paddlers,

who can either paddle unsupervised (in groups of at least three boats).

White water Fridays (summer months):

For those that are new or unsure our White Water Friday (WWF) is a members only session we run once a month throughout the paddling season. We hire the white water course allowing members the chance to paddle in an out of public session. To help you build confidence and improve your white water skills or for competent paddlers just to have fun.

This is for you If:

  • You are new to white water but are able to capsize with a spray deck and have reasonable control of your boat.
  • Are experienced at paddling on the course.

Who can attend:

I’m new to white water?

Providing you are able to control your boat and capsize with a spray deck you will be fine. The club provide leaders and coaches to help the inexperienced people gain the skills needed to be safe and have fun on the white water course. Because of this we limit the number of people that can book online as inexperienced.

I am a competent white water course user

If you are a regular to the course, and able to make plenty of eddies, stop on your way down (especially Pool A), cross the flow of the water and rescue yourself in a controlled manor then you can book on as “Course competent” online.

When are the sessions

The aim is for the 2nd Friday of the month (April-Sept) unless we have another event.
Meet at the club for 6.30pm to get all kit sorted and changed etc.
7pm briefing and organising of groups and how the session will run. The water gets turned off around 9pm

All dates will be published on the website, The club online calendar, and monthly WhatsApp reminders

What’s Next / How do I attend?

There is a cost to this session of £10 per person
You can book online via the shop at www.nckc.org.uk/shop

Friday night pool sessions (Winter months):

During the winter months, the club runs sessions at the Mounts Swimming pool (see map below) from 8:30 to 10pm.  These sessions are ideal for paddlers of all abilities: beginners can get a feel of the sport in a safe environment and can learn safety drills in nice, clean, warm water while more advanced paddlers can practice support strokes and perfect their roll.  It is also a nice occasion to get to know club members and have a chat.
