Beginners Welsh White Water Weekend

The weekend began with a long, slow drive to the campsite with congestion almost the whole way. We were first to arrive followed a few hours later by the rest of the group. There was some confusion on whether we would be joined by some more paddlers but in the end we stayed as an eight. After an early night to shelter from the rain, and a slow morning, as I am defiantly not a morning person, we were kitted…

Family Fun Day/ Search and Rescue

Well it was a wet start, heavy rain etc. but it didn’t ruin the day. So after setting the games up along with the gazebo and Gas BBQ we were ready to entertain our guests. The Start time was set for 10am but with the weather and travelling time for some we postponed for a while to get numbers together and eventually the games started. Now there`s Bob doing Sinking of the Titanic whilst Matthew Smith shows him how it’s…

Severn/Wye Trip &The Missing Pelli Case

Well what an interesting weekend, Saturday we was planning on paddling from Glasbury to Byecross campsite. A distance of around 22miles I believe. The shuttle went well and we managed to get on the water around 11am. The start point was very busy with paddlers from all over hiring out canoes etc. The weather was fabulous so plenty of fluids taken with us, not forgetting the pubs stops along the way. The water was shallow in places so perfect for…

An Interesting Day

The planning had been done weeks ago, and three paddlers met up in the campsite at St David’s – Scott, Chris and Alan. The plan was simple – tomorrow we would set off at 8am to catch the slack tide, and cross the north end of Ramsey Island. Then we would paddle gently down the Atlantic side of the island, and cross back into Ramsey sound on the next slack water, six hours later, and paddle into the harbour to…

Doggy Paddle 2014

Another early start for this fabulous event, up at 5:30am van loaded with one of Tracey’s remarkable lunches and bacon baps for 18 for breakfast, hitched the trailer and met up at the centre at 6:30am for remainder of the group to convoy to start position at Royal Leamington Spa where we met Pete King and his 6 merry paddlers and the 2 dogs. It was then a quick shuttle run to the get out point at Stratford Upon Avon…

Last minute river Ogwen (North Wales)

Throughout the week there was a forecast of rain, with my ear to the ground I could hear murmurings of a paddling trip being formed to North Wales, by Thursday nothing was finalised. Saturday afternoon around 4pm my phone goes off with a text from Duncan saying they have been paddling today, the rivers are up and its still raining. At this time I was climbing in Leicester making the most of the glorious sunshine and not a spot of…

River Usk November 2013

The Usk is a great little river down in the Brecon beacons, ideal as an introduction to moving water and a great little paddle with 3 sections. Over the Friday evening we slowly began to meet at the bunkhouse claim our bed and retire to the pub just across the road. By the time Saturday morning arrived and few others coming as a day trip we had around 14 people.  Out in the car park at minus 5 Deg C we…

Arnie’s Tale The River Usk

When I saw that Andy Davis was running a trip on the Usk I thought ‘great that’s just what I want to do.’  Having done the WW course and a couple of Matlocks, his comment that is was an ideal progression into white water sold it to me and I signed up straight away.  Over the next few weeks it grew in my imagination into something more like running the Grand Canyon and I started to wonder if I’d done…
